The book "TEN TOWERS DEEP" by Jacques Vriens becomes an emotional, funny and captivating family show.
The story takes place in 1958 and tells the unconditional friendship between Stef and Victor, both aged twelve.
From a young age, Stef knows he wants to become a miner, just like his father and brother. His best friend Victor shares this dream, despite the fact that his father had a fatal accident in the mine.
In kindergarten, the two friends founded their "Secret Miners' Club". Their friend, the brave Wietske, now wants to join.
To do this, she must first pass a "test", but it goes wrong, causing a stir throughout the colony.
The story therefore concerns not only Stef, Victor and Wietske, but also daily life in "Oranjedorp" at the end of the fifties.
Joy and sorrow are shared; there are complaints about the power of the mine management and the priest, but there is also pride in the tough job of mining and the underground solidarity of the comrades.
Through various dramatic events, the story accelerates and the friendship of the three children is put to the test.
A wonderful tale for children aged 9 and up, but also for their (grand)parents and anyone who feels connected to the mining past.
