The Christmas Village of Liège is the largest and oldest Christmas market in Belgium. Founded nearly 35 years ago, it has become the most important Christmas market in the country in terms of size, duration, and spirit. It is a unique folkloric and popular event that brings the traditions of Christmas festivities back to life each year in the heart of the Fiery City.
What makes the Christmas Village of Liège so special is that it has a true heart that beats through its streets. Indeed, Liège hosts a real village, with its own districts, the joyful laughter and friendly quarrels of its "citizens" (that is, the stallholders), its church with a nativity scene brought to life by Liège-style puppets, its Town Hall filled with pèket and good cheer, and... its municipal council, which brings the Village to life and organizes a variety of typically Liégeois folkloric events.
