Roman Days
14.05 > 17.05 2026
Discover how people lived in the Netherlands during Roman times this Ascension weekend, from May 14 to 17, 2026, at the preHistorisch Dorp in Eindhoven!
Avé ! Did you know that many of our modern conveniences were introduced by the Romans? Writing, the use of money, new foods, and even our road networks... it was all brought to us by these impressive people! During Roman Days, you’ll have the chance to discover how Romans lived in the Brabant region more than 2,000 years ago. Mark Ascension 2026 in your calendar, as this open-air museum will be filled with Romans for four days, just as it was two millennia ago.
Real Roman Soldiers
For four days, real Roman soldiers will march through the preHistorisch Dorp. They will lead soldier training sessions and showcase various aspects of military life. With great enthusiasm, they will take you on a journey to a world of discipline, battle, and adventure.
Back to Roman Times
The museum brings local ancient life to scale. While there weren't as many soldiers in North Brabant, the life of the indigenous population changed drastically—this weekend shows you how! At the Roman camp, witness daily life from 2,000 years ago, from glass bead making to land surveying and ancient medicine. You can also participate in activities like bridge building or joining a soldier's drill. Who knows, you might even be recruited!
Historical Activities
Don't just watch history, take part in it! Make your own Roman fibula (cloak pin), the ancestor of buttons and zippers. Or build a mini version of a Roman arch bridge! By the fire, you can bake your own filled bread alongside a Roman resident.
Roman Buildings
The museum features several reconstructions of Roman buildings that once stood in the Eindhoven region: a gatehouse used as a watchtower, a workshop for specialized crafts, a Roman herb garden, and the "Runderhoeve," an indigenous Roman house that reflects the blending of cultures.
