In a remarkable journey of over 400 photographs, discover the work of the famous photographer Robert Doisneau in Liège!
La Boverie hosts a major retrospective dedicated to one of the greatest masters of 20th-century photography. Nearly 400 images, from his beginnings in the 1930s to the end of his career, are presented in a rich and sensitive journey. The exhibition brings together both his most iconic images and many previously unseen photographs, offering a complete and renewed vision of his work. Following its great success in Paris, this stop in Liège marks the beginning of an international tour and is enriched by a Belgian selection.
A humanistic, tender gaze that is deeply attentive to reality
Far from mere clichés, each photograph by Doisneau bears the mark of a gaze that is curious, tender, free, and generous. He captures the poetry of everyday life with precision, the moments of grace as well as the moments of gravity. The exhibition explores the major themes that run through his work: childhood, artists' studios, writers, bistros, the Vogue years, but also the harshness of the suburbs and the fragility of the human condition. Through photographs, rare documents, interactive displays, recordings, and sound testimonies, visitors are invited to discover the intimate connection between the artist and the worlds he traversed.
A particular focus on Belgium
In Liège, the public will discover an unprecedented Belgian selection, highlighting the landscapes and iconic figures of the country: from the cybernetic tower to the blast furnaces of Liège, from folkloric figures like the Gilles to the timeless charm of Bruges, not forgetting its photos from Expo 58 and Georges Simenon.
