Categories
- Competition: The entire team is licensed by their national rafting committee.
- Clubs: One of the team members is a member of a club affiliated with Peddelsport Vlaanderen or a similar organisation. This could be a kayaking club, a canoe club, etc.
- Recreational: None of the members belong to the above categories. Just for fun!
Disciplines
- Sprint: Each team will descend a short section of the river – about 300 m – as quickly as possible; your time counts towards the ranking. You only have one chance! Give it your all!
- Head-2-Head: Depending on your sprint result, you will be placed in a tournament bracket. You will descend the short section again, but this time you will start alongside another team. The winner of this round will advance to the next round. Although a quick start is usually decisive, tactics can be important.
- Slalom: You must navigate through 10 gates along the course. The green gates must be taken downstream, the red gates must be passed upstream. If you touch the gate with anything (boat, body, paddle, ...), 5 seconds of penalty will be added to your time. If you miss a gate, push it, or take it in the wrong direction, 50 seconds will be added! In the end, the finishing time plus the penalty seconds will constitute your final time. Fortunately, you have two runs and the best one counts. Here, the combination of agility and average strength makes the difference.
- Descent: The descent is the most rewarding discipline. Because it is also the most difficult. The one that separates girls from women and boys from men. It involves paddling on a long stretch of river – and in our case, also paddling upstream on part of the river.
Whether you are athletes or spectators have fun!
